On February 10, Quang Nam Central General Hospital said that it had just saved the life of a patient suffering from gastrointestinal septic shock leading to multi-organ failure.
Before that, at noon on February 6, the emergency department of the hospital received patient DVV (39 years old, residing in Tam Quang commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam) with chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Clinical examination results showed that the patient’s blood pressure might not be measured, the skin was cyanotic, the conjunctiva of the eyes was yellow, the legs were swollen and the feet were purple.
The patient was immediately resuscitated and performed the necessary paraclinical tests. The results showed that the patient had septic shock from the gastrointestinal tract leading to multi-organ failure.
On the followingnoon of February 6, the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit – anti-poison for monitoring and special care. Immediately, the patient was given strong antibiotics, maintained blood pressure with vasopressors and was prescribed continuous dialysis by doctors.
After 3 days of intensive treatment and continuous dialysis at the ICU, the patient overcame the critical condition with stable vital signs. The patient was then transferred to the Department of Gastroenterology for further treatment.
Doctor Doan Quoc Dat (in charge of the Emergency Resuscitation Department) said that this is one of the severe cases successfully treated at the Department by continuous dialysis.
It is known that the patient’s family cannot afford to pay the hospital fees, the patient has no insurance. The hospital is still providing treatment, giving priority to saving patients’ lives. At the same time, hospital leaders also directed the Social Work Department to carry out emergency support procedures for patients.
