Since August 1, many regulars at the TEC in Jemeppe, Velaine-sur-Sambre and even Ligny have been pissed off: the route of their bus has been canceled by the Transport Organizing Authority (AOT). This is part of the two routes of line 23 (from Spy to Jemeppe and Velaine-sur-Sambre) as well as line 147A to Tamines or Gembloux. The first made it easy to get to Namur from the center of Jemeppe or the village of Velaine-sur-Sambre, while the second made it possible, in particular, to be transported to Gembloux.
Faced with this deletion, several people have decided to launch petitions. This is the case of Muriel, Jemeppoise. Her children were regulars on line 23 to reach Namur where they go to school. A journey of around 45 minutes from their bus stop on the Chaussée d’Éghezée in Jemeppe. “But since August 1, and I don’t know for what reason(s), the part of the line between Spy and Jemeppe or Velaine has been removed. My children must therefore take the express line E85, stop at Place de Spy and transfer to line 23. On paper, this seems like a good alternative. But the problem is that the timetables for the two lines do not match.”
An example: “To go to school, my children have to be at the bus stop in Jemeppe at 6 a.m. After taking the express for two stops, they have to wait for their connection in Spy for more than 30 minutes. They arrive in Namur at 7.11 a.m., while the lessons don’t start until… 8.20 a.m. Since there is only one E85 per hour, they have no other choice. 8:27 a.m. in Namur. So they will be late for school.” For the return, it’s the same. “It’s even more complicated for Wednesday as there is only one E85 in the followingnoon.”
“I asked for more buses…”
The Jemeppoise therefore decided to send a complaint to the TEC. She also mentioned the inconvenience suffered by those who live in Velaine-sur-Sambre and who use line 23. “I received an answer: I was told that there were other lines available and that Moustier station was nearby. It’s true except that, in our case, it is more than 20 minutes on foot from the house and, in addition, the children must cross the national 90.”
La Jemeppoise has launched a petition to restore all of line 23. As of this writing, it has been signed 500 times. “What’s crazy is that, during the TEC satisfaction survey, I wrote that it would be interesting to increase the number of buses on this line. I don’t think they understood What i have written (laughs) .” In the comments of the petition, many are those who feel the same way as Muriel. Especially those who live in Velaine and who, without a car, feel totally helpless. Or others who today have the impression that the TEC and the AOT are doing everything so that users choose their vehicle rather than public transport.
