The Canadian Colorectal Cancer Coalition is today launching the Save Butt, Save Lives – Pledge campaign, a pledge initiative that aims to attract communities, community organizations and businesses of all types to sign the pledge. to spread the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer.
MONTREAL, Sept. 5, 2023 /CNW/ – This campaign will be launched nationally, but is starting in Quebec.
The objective of this initiative is to increase the colorectal cancer screening rate among the average risk population, that is, people aged 50 to 74.
The national objective for colorectal cancer screening is set at 60% of the target population and has still not been reached in the country. Therefore, this Coalition was created to respond to this unmet need in Quebec and across the country.
“We believe that together we can reduce the incidence and mortality of this disease, by rallying communities, local organizations and businesses to encourage their average risk staff and members to get screened for cancer. colorectal. We will help them with resources to spread the importance of screening. We must prevent this cancer from becoming the number one cause of cancer death by building stronger relationships and demonstrating to Canadians that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and curable if diagnosed in time,” said Barry. D. Stein, president of Colorectal Cancer Canada and stage IV colon cancer survivor.
Beginning of a provincial awareness tour
The campaign is launched in Quebec and will be combined with the Giant Colon Tour which will stop in 10 cities across the province over the next two months. This is a Quebec community awareness tour that features a major multimedia exhibit on the human colon and is financially supported by the Quebec Cancer Program.
Organizations and businesses across the province are invited to make a pledge to educate their network regarding the disease and encourage their members, employees and business partners, especially those 50 and older, to get tested. for colorectal cancer through iFOBT (faecal occult blood immunochemical test). This screening is simple and non-invasive that can be done in the privacy of one’s home and is available from public health authorities in each province.
