Saurimo prioritizes family farming and livestock this year – Jornal OPaís

Reinforcing investment in family farming and livestock farming, with the acquisition of vegetable seeds, fruit plants and other agricultural materials, in order to make local production more sustainable, constitute the main priorities of the Municipal Administration of Saurimo, during the current season.

The initiative, part of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), encourages families to increasingly dedicate themselves to agricultural activity and guarantee sufficient food for the population, according to the administrator of Saurimo, Adérito Cahanga.

The person responsible, who spoke during the consultation and social repair council, which approved the PIDLCP action plan, last Wednesday, pointed out, on the other hand, basic sanitation, school meals, technical-professional training, primary health care, improving water supply and electricity distribution, as well as the construction of rural infrastructure and social facilities are other priorities for the municipality of Saurimo.

On the occasion, Adérito Cahanga said that, to carry out the respective projects, the municipal administration will also rely on the Municipality’s Participatory Budget (OPM), as well as on revenue allocated to the municipality.

In the same vein, the administrator also recalled that the Angolan Executive remains committed to intensifying actions aimed at combating hunger and poverty among the population, especially in rural areas.

The meeting of the social consultation and repair council was attended by members of the municipal administration, defense and security bodies, representatives of political parties, religious and traditional entities, among others.

The municipality of Saurimo has an estimated population of 534,231 inhabitants, corresponding to 82 percent of the population of Lunda Sul.
