Saudi Salem Al-Dosari won the Best Asian Footballer Award for the year 2022, during a ceremony hosted by the capital, Doha, today, Tuesday, at the Qatar National Convention Center.
The 32-year-old Al Hilal Saudi club winger outperformed his competitors, Qatari Almoez Ali and Australian Matthew Leckie.

Al-Dosari is the sixth Saudi player
Al-Dosari became the sixth Saudi player to win the award, following Saeed Al-Owairan (1994), Nawaf Al-Timayat (2000), Hamad Al-Montashari (2005), Yasser Al-Qahtani (2007) and Nasser Al-Shamrani (2014).
Al-Dosari emerged with the Saudi national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, specifically in the historic victory over Argentina (2-1), which later won the tournament title. He scored the winning goal once morest the world champion with a wonderful shot, and added another in the match that Saudi Arabia lost to Mexico 1-2 in the third, final round.

Qatari Al-Sadd player Akram Afif won the award for the last time in 2019 following he helped lead his country to the Asian Cup title in the Emirates, while the Continental Confederation withheld it for three years following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Qatar hosted the 27th edition of the annual awards ceremony, prior to hosting the Asian Cup Finals, during the period from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
