Al-Rashed took first place in the race aboard a Toyota GR Yaris, more than six seconds behind the next competitor in the ranking, achieving a new achievement for himself and the Kingdom in world car rallies.
Al-Rashed was the only Saudi participant in the Finnish “Jari Pika” rally, in which 87 competitors from all over the world participated.
Rakan Al-Rashed previously participated this year in the “Bujanma” car race, which was held on June 14 and 15 last, in the vicinity of the Finnish city of Seinajoki. He was also among the top ten winners in the Latvian Car Championship organized by the International Automobile Federation, and hosted by the city of Liepaja in Latvia. Al-Rashed said that he is working with his team to increase participation in world championships in preparation for reaching the World Rally Championship, which Saudi Arabia will host next year, stressing that this hosting constitutes an important factor in raising the participation rate of Saudi drivers in world championships, and also contributes to serving this sport and spreading it locally through Facilitating the entry of new drivers into world championships with minimal costs and efforts.
The Saudi Ministry of Sports announced that the Kingdom will host the World Rally Championship for the first time in its history, under the name “Saudi Rally” for a period of 10 years, starting next year 2025, organized by the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports, and in cooperation with the World Rally Championship.
