Riyadh: Imprisonment and fine for insulting the national flag in Saudi Arabia. The warning comes in the wake of the widespread use of the national flag during the Saudi founding day celebrations. Violation of the order carries a jail term of up to a year and a fine of up to half a million rupees, the Saudi Public Prosecution has warned.

The public prosecution said it was an offense under the Saudi flag law to insult the national flag in any way, to desecrate the flag, to lower the flag, to insult or humiliate any other symbol of the country, or to insult the national flag out of hatred or contempt for the country or government.

The description of the national flag and the royal flag are similar. The royal flag is embroidered with gold silk threads on the underside of the national flag. This is the difference between the two flags.

For the first time in history, people, including Saudi nationals and expatriates, are intoxicated by the celebration of Founding Day. All over Saudi Arabia, people, including children and the elderly, dress in traditional costumes and take part in various celebrations. The country has celebrated February 22 as Founder’s Day with a variety of celebrations following the preparations made by King Salman for the celebration of Founder’s Day on February 22.

The country is commemorating the founding of the first Saudi state by Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727 (1139 AH), three hundred years ago. King Sarman had earlier announced that February 22, the founding day, would be a public holiday in Saudi Arabia every year.

Celebrations were held in various parts of the country to mark the founding day. The highlight was the Founder’s Day Parade in Wadi Nimar, Riyadh. Thousands thronged to see the parade, which was attended by 3,500 artists dressed in different traditional costumes from different parts of the country. The parade, which was accompanied by Duff Mutt, was attended by a large number of people, including women and children in traditional costumes of various colors.
