RIYADH – The Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, confirmed yesterday that there are no ready plans or recipes for transitioning to green energy globally.
The Minister’s statements were made on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the Open Forum within the work of the special meeting of the World Economic Forum held in Riyadh.
He said: “Let us be clear: today there is no ready-made recipe for transitioning to green energy that everyone must adhere to.”
The Saudi minister considered that the shift towards green energy must be subject to practical and realistic controls. “There is no doubt that the world will need all energy sources in the coming period.”
While the International Energy Agency and Western countries call for the necessity of a complete energy transition away from fossil fuels, oil producers believe that the world will not at present completely abandon oil and its derivatives.
The world consumes approximately 102 million barrels of crude oil daily, while the total emissions associated with energy generation in 2023 reached approximately 38 billion metric tons, a growth of 1.1 percent compared to 2022, which is the highest record level of emissions.
On Sunday, the work of the Open Forum was launched in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as part of the work of the special meeting of the World Economic Forum, under the title “What kind of growth do we need.”
A statement issued by the World Economic Forum stated that the work of the Open Forum is organized between it and the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning, in the period between 28 and 29 April of this month.
