Smoking in public places: a clear violation

Al-Muhaimid stressed that smoking in public places is a clear violation of the anti-smoking system and its executive regulations, which prohibit smoking in all closed and open public places, including:

Indoor places: government buildings, hospitals, schools, universities, airports, shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes. Open spaces: public parks, beaches, sports stadiums, and tourist attractions.

Financial penalties and fines of up to 5,000 riyals

Al-Muhaimid explained that the penalties resulting from violating the anti-smoking system include fines of up to 5,000 Saudi riyals, in addition to other penalties that may reach imprisonment in some cases. The value of the fine varies according to the type of violation and the number of times it is repeated.

Protecting public health is a top priority

Al-Muhaimid stressed that the anti-smoking system aims primarily to protect public health from the harms of smoking, whether for smokers themselves or for those around them who are non-smokers. He pointed out that smoking causes many serious diseases, such as cancer, heart and respiratory diseases.

Educate the community and enforce the law firmly

Al-Muhaimid called for intensifying efforts to raise awareness about the harms of smoking and the importance of quitting it, as well as firmly implementing the anti-smoking system on all violators. He stressed the role of the family, school and the media in spreading awareness of the dangers of smoking.

E-smoking: a new health threat

Al-Muhaimid warned of the spread of the phenomenon of electronic smoking among young people, stressing that this type of smoking is no less dangerous than traditional smoking, and may even be more harmful in some cases. He called for tightening control over the sale and use of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products.
