Riyadh: Reportedly, traffic accident deaths in Saudi Arabia have decreased by 40 percent in the last ten years. This is helped by the traffic controls and surveillance implemented in the country. Saudi Arabia aims to reduce accident deaths by 50 percent by 2030.

According to the report released by the Ministry of Health, there has been a 40 percent reduction in deaths due to traffic accidents in the ten-year period from 2013 to 2022. In 2013, more than 7,000 deaths and more than 39,000 injuries were reported in the country. But by last year, it had dropped to 4,555 deaths and more than 24,000 injuries.

Plans are being implemented in the country to reduce deaths due to road accidents by 50 percent by 2030. The report shows that it is showing results very quickly. The ministry said the country is currently only ten percent away from the target and is likely to achieve the target ahead of schedule.

In order to reduce road accidents and deaths, traffic control and surveillance are being strengthened on all roads and action is being taken once morest traffic violations using modern technologies. The traffic department has also started air ambulance services in five areas for accident victims. Also, special medical teams and centers have been set up only for road accident victims. Special projects for this are implemented through mutual cooperation between seven ministries.
