Saudi Arabia wins the organization of the Asian Winter Games, and 3 Lebanese banks are attacked by depositors

Three Lebanese banks were subjected today to raids by depositors to demand the return of their money, in the latest incidents of bank storming by depositors in Lebanon, which is witnessing a major economic crisis.

An angry depositor in his fifties stormed a bank in the Bekaa region (eastern Lebanon), to demand the transfer of an amount to his son, who is residing to study in Ukraine.

Since 2019, Lebanese banks have imposed strict restrictions on deposit withdrawals, so that it has become almost impossible for depositors to dispose of their money, especially those deposited in US dollars due to the economic crisis that the country is experiencing.

In the southern city of Tire, another depositor broke into a bank branch, according to the Depositors’ Scream Association.

In northern Tripoli, a number of employees of the Qadisha Electricity Company stormed a bank, in protest of not receiving their salaries, according to the official National News Agency.

Lebanon has witnessed an increase in bank raids for some time, and 7 similar incidents occurred last month, which prompted the Association of Banks to close its branches for a week, due to security concerns, before partially resuming its work amid strict security measures.
