Saudi Arabia: We are making efforts to stop the “aggression” and increase international recognition of Palestine

Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Cabinet said on Tuesday that the Kingdom is making “intensive efforts” to stop “Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people” and increase international recognition of Palestine.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman chaired a session of the Council in the city of Jeddah (west) on Tuesday, according to the official news agency (SPA).

During the session, the Council noted “the tireless efforts made by the Kingdom in cooperation with its brothers on the political and humanitarian levels to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people,” according to a statement by the Council.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been waging a war on Gaza that has resulted in more than 125,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.

Coinciding with this war, the Israeli army and settlers escalated their attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which led to the killing of 556 Palestinians, the injury of 5,300, and the arrest of 9,490, according to official Palestinian sources.

The Saudi Cabinet also discussed “the Kingdom’s efforts to move at the international level to support efforts aimed at having more countries in the world recognize the State of Palestine.”

In light of the Israeli war, Armenia, Slovenia, Spain, Norway and Ireland officially announced their recognition of Palestine, raising the number of countries recognizing it to 149 out of 193 countries in the United Nations General Assembly.

Since 2012, Palestine has had “non-member observer state” status at the United Nations, and Washington’s use of its “veto” power in the UN Security Council prevents the Palestinians from obtaining full membership.

During its session, the Saudi Cabinet also discussed “continuing to provide relief aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.”

Saudi Arabia launched a relief campaign to support the Palestinian people, and hosted more than one meeting to discuss ways to end the devastating war on Gaza.

For the 18th year, Israel has besieged the Gaza Strip, and its war has forced about two million of its population, numbering about 2.3 million Palestinians, to flee in catastrophic conditions, with severe shortages of food, water and medicine.
