Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists on social media circulated a video clip in which old neighborhoods “slums” were filmed from a car traveling on a bridge in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which sparked an interaction.
There is a campaign organized by traitors to exploit the campaign to remove slums in Jeddah in order to mobilize people once morest the state.. The best thing we do is; Copy the link of this tweet to this great thread and paste it in the tweets of traitors and mercenaries.. https://t.co/8K4idCqtY3
The video clip was published on January 20, in conjunction with the Jeddah Municipality’s notification of the removal of a number of random buildings.
An important decision that has security, development and social dimensions. Slums and abandoned neighborhoods due to the displacement of their residents towards new neighborhoods turn, over time, into residential gatherings that threaten the security of society, the safety of residents and national security. https://t.co/rJbF7F0eAl
CNN Arabic contacted the authorities in Jeddah for comment, without a response at the time of writing this report.
Slums are a human tragedy for those inside and outside them. Addressing their conditions and securing a decent life plan that includes the necessary services for all regular citizens and residents is a joint task between the state, associations, civil society and the private sector. Cleaning Jeddah from gangs and places of punishment is a serious step to ensure security and safety https://t.co/NVMKNlqmlX
And the Jeddah Municipality had said, according to what was reported by the official Saudi Press Agency at the time: “The Jeddah Municipality has removed 14 unlicensed random buildings that were set up in violation without legal documents on government lands with an area of more than 27 thousand square meters in ‘Al-Harazat’ and ‘Muraikh’… The secretariat’s efforts in monitoring lands and encroachments.”
