Saudi Arabia to host Olympic Esports Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Friday that it has reached an agreement with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia to organize the first Esports Olympic Games in 2025.

The announcement was made by the organization through a statement spread on their social network account X (formerly Twitter), where they detailed that the proposal will be presented at the next IOC Session.

This partnership between the IOC and the NOC would last for 12 years and the eSports Olympic Games would be held periodically.

“We are very fortunate to be able to work with the Saudi NOC on the Olympic eSports Games, because they have a wealth of, if not unique, experience in the field of eSports with all its stakeholders,” said IOC President Thomas Bach..

“By partnering with the Saudi NOC, we have also ensured that Olympic values ​​are respected, in particular with regard to the titles of the games on the programme, the promotion of gender equality and engagement with young audiences,” he added.

For his part, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, expressed his excitement regarding the partnership.

“Saudi Arabia is very excited regarding the prospect of partnering with the IOC and helping to welcome a completely new era for international sport. We believe that participating in the Olympic Games is one of the greatest honours any athlete can achieve,” he said.

“As the first ever Olympic Esports Games, there is obviously still a lot to consider and plan with the IOC, but we are committed to delivering a special event that respects and celebrates Olympic values,” he said.
