The Specialized Hospital announced a major achievement in the robotic heart surgery program, achieving patient safety rates of up to 98% through 400 robotic heart surgeries performed since the program began in February 2019.
This achievement reinforces the hospital’s position as a global leader in robotic cardiac care. The hospital reported significant improvements in patient outcomes compared to traditional surgical methods.
According to the hospital, robotic surgeries have resulted in reduced blood transfusions and reduced duration of mechanical ventilation. This in turn allows patients to recover faster and experience fewer complications.
The minimally invasive nature of robotic procedures has also significantly shortened hospital stays by more than 50%.
This reduction in hospital stay also translates into a 40% reduction in overall costs compared to traditional methods, as well as allowing patients to return to their daily lives more quickly.
According to the hospital report, technologically advanced medical procedures have helped treat a wide range of complex heart diseases, as the hospital has successfully performed multi-valve robotic surgeries, aortic valve replacement, and other complex procedures.
The hospital started its robotic heart surgery program by performing 105 operations in its first year. Since then, the program has grown rapidly, with 400 successful surgeries to date.
Furthermore, the program has successfully performed robotic procedures on high-risk patients, such as children under 18, those with morbid obesity, and those who require repeat surgeries.
It is noteworthy that King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre is the “only” hospital in the world that performs robotic heart surgeries on children.
“I am proud of our team who contributed to this success. Thank you to our cardiologists who continue to refer patients to the interventional and robotic cardiac surgery approach,” said Dr. Firas Khalil of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.
