Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Public Security announced the arrest of a Yemeni resident in the Kingdom following he raised a banner reading “Umrah for the soul of Queen Elizabeth”, on Monday evening.
And a video clip spread showing a pilgrim pilgrim holding a banner that reads: “Umrah for the soul of Queen Elizabeth II, we ask God to accept her in heaven and with the righteous.”
The circulating clip provoked angry reactions in social media, as a number of tweeters demanded the arrest of the resident and his accountability.
And Public Security published a statement on Monday evening, in which it said: “The Special Force of the Security of the Grand Mosque arrested a resident of Yemeni nationality who appeared in a video clip carrying a banner inside the Grand Mosque, violating the regulations and instructions for Umrah, and he was stopped and legal measures were taken once morest him and referred to the Public Prosecution.”
For its part, the Emirate of the Makkah region published a tweet, in which it stated: “The Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque: Al-Qabas once morest a Yemeni resident appeared in a video clip carrying a banner inside the Grand Mosque, violating the regulations and instructions for Umrah,” and its tweet included the circulating video.
It is noteworthy that Queen Elizabeth II had died Thursday, at the age of 96, ending the longest reign in British history.
