Saudi Arabia announces the construction of a new stadium and an increase in the capacity of 5 stadiums

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Thamer Basnell, Undersecretary of Sports Facilities in the Saudi Ministry of Sports, said that a new stadium will be constructed in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a capacity of 40,000 spectators and with high-quality technologies, noting that work will also be done to increase 5 pitches capacity.

Thamer Basnell spoke, at the press conference in the second league of the sports sector, organized by the Ministry of Sports, on Wednesday, saying: “A stadium will be established in the north of Riyadh, behind Princess Noura University, with high technologies, with a capacity of 40,000 spectators, and it will be ready to host matches. before the 2027 Asian Cup.

He added, “Work will be done to increase the capacity of 5 stadiums, the King Fahd International Stadium to have a capacity of 80,000 spectators, and Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium to have a capacity of 40,000 spectators, all of which will be without a track.”

He continued, “Work has begun on sports stadiums in 3 clubs, namely Al-Fateh, Al-Shabab and Al-Ettifaq, which will be completed in 2023. They will be allocated for football matches, and they will also be without a track.”

He stated: “We will work to develop the lighting of stadiums in the Saudi League, so that it becomes in accordance with the standards of the International Federation, with 2500 lux, as the lighting is now at 1800 lux.”

He added: “Marsool Park Stadium is one of the stadiums that we rely on in the Ministry’s hosting, and the city of Taif is one of the cities in which we aim to develop and prepare, to be one of the most important sites equipped for hosting camps and matches.”

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia submitted a request to the Asian Football Confederation to host the Asian Cup in 2027.
