Saudi Arabia – The Saudi News Agency “SPA” reported that the Kingdom has achieved a new historical record in the tourism sector, according to preliminary data from the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia.

SPA reported that Saudi Arabia has achieved a new record in spending by visitors coming to the Kingdom from abroad during the year 2023, according to preliminary Saudi Central Bank data on the travel item in the balance of payments, with spending amounting to 135 billion riyals, and this number is the highest in the history of the country. The Kingdom, with regard to spending by visitors coming from abroad, this spending represents a growth rate of 42.8% compared to 2022.

According to SPA, the historic increase in spending by visitors coming to the Kingdom from abroad comes within a series of continuous successes achieved by the tourism sector in the Kingdom, as the Kingdom topped the United Nations Tourism List in the growth rate of the number of international tourists in 2023 compared to 2019 for major tourism countries. It achieved a 56% increase in the number of arriving tourists in the year 2023 compared to 2019, according to the barometer report issued by the United Nations Tourism in January 2024. It also achieved a 156% recovery in the number of arriving tourists during the year 2023 compared to the year 2019.

Saudi Arabia had previously received wide international praise from the World Tourism Organization “UN Tourism” and the World Travel and Tourism Council “WTTC” in light of the Kingdom’s arrival to more than 100 million tourists from home and abroad during the year 2023, as the two organizations praised the great efforts witnessed by the sector.
