On the 15th, local time in the east of the United States, a 40-year-old Chinese woman was pushed off the platform by a 61-year-old African-American homeless while waiting for a train in the New York subway. According to US media, the victim was a senior manager of Deloitte, one of the well-known big four accounting firms. Police said the suspect had a history of mental illness and the case was not a hate crime.
According to the “New York Times” report on the 16th, the victim is Michelle Alyssa Go, who holds an MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and is responsible for strategy, operations and procurement at Deloitte.
The victim was keen on volunteering. For the past 10 years, she has served in the Youth League of New York, helping disadvantaged groups including the elderly, homeless, immigrants, and poor elementary and middle school students. After learning of her bad news, neighbors and colleagues paid tribute to her, saying that she was a smart, kind and excellent woman.
It is understood that the suspect, Simon Martial, turned himself in to police following fleeing the scene and is currently charged with murder. To the anger of the public, before he was brought into the police station, he not only stuck his tongue out and made faces at the photographer, but also arrogantly claimed to be God, “I can do this.” Police said the suspect had a history of mental illness and a previous robbery, which was not a hate crime but a random killing.
