Russian troops bombed cities across Ukraine on Friday and appeared to be regrouping for another attack on Kyiv.

Russian forces expanded their strikes once morest airfields in western Ukraine and a major industrial center in the east, and their attacks quickly reduced the city to rubble.

According to the Associated Press, U.S. defense officials assessed the Russian airstrikes, estimating that Russia dispatches an average of 200 fighter jets a day, compared with five to 10 for Ukrainian forces. Ukraine has mainly concentrated on using surface-to-air missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and drones to try to destroy Russian warplanes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country had reached a “strategic turning point” in the conflict, without giving further details, but cautioned that it was impossible to determine how long the fighting would last.

“It is impossible to say how many more days we will have to liberate Ukrainian soil. But we can say that we will do it. Because we have reached a strategic turning point,” he said in a video address. At the same time, he also urged the international community to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

On the economic and political fronts, the United States and its allies are moving to further isolate and sanction Moscow. U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. will significantly reduce its trade status with Russia, while banning imports of Russian seafood, alcohol and diamonds.

The move to revoke Russia’s “most-favored-nation status” was coordinated with the European Union and the G7.
