What had been brewing since the beginning of the week has happened. Due to bad weather, the second downhill training on the Saslong cannot be carried out as planned.

On Tuesday, the World Cup week in South Tyrol opened as planned with the first of two downhill training sessions in Val Gardena. The fastest of the day, Jared Goldberg from the USA, prevailed ahead of top favorite Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who has already triumphed five times on the Saslong. However, the second training run was canceled overnight due to snowfall.

As already announced in the weather forecasts at the beginning of the week, snowfall began in Val Gardena on Wednesday night. This snowfall made it impossible to hold the second downhill training session. “The focus is now 100 percent on preparing the slopes for the upcoming races. Our aim is to have the track in ideal condition for all three competitions,” said the organizing committee of the 56th Saslong Classic, explaining the decision, which was made in coordination with the race jury.

At the foot of the Sassolungo, World Cup points will be up for grabs for the first time from Thursday: First, the catch-up downhill run for the canceled race in Zermatt-Cervinia is on the agenda, before the Super-G takes place on Friday and the downhill run on Saturday. All three speed competitions start at 11.45 a.m.
