The verifications of the minutes relating to the outcome of the regional elections of 25 February in Sardinia were concluded in the Court of Appeal in Cagliari. Alessandra Todde of the 5 Star Movement would confirm herself as the winner with 3,061 votes ahead of her defeated opponent, Paolo Truzzu of the centre-right. A gap that would close the reversal question, hypothesized close to the elections, when the counting of sections still missing had certified a comeback for Truzzu, heavily punished at the polls especially in his native Cagliari, and even the possibility of an overtaking. We then went on to hypothesize such a small advantage that an appeal to the TAR for a recount might not be ruled out.
However, the chrism of officialdom is missing. The Court of Appeal of Cagliari dampened the enthusiasm of the broad camp by announcing that the count is still underway as we learn from a note by the President of the Court Gemma Cucca. However, for the political leader of the 5 Star Movement the data is certain: “Alessandra Todde is on the verge of a proclamation. There was talk of a minimum difference of 1,400 votes, in reality the votes are over three thousand. This story is beautiful because it is a large margin of victory”, states Giuseppe Conte according to whom Todde’s victory is not “a narrow victory, but an overwhelming victory if we consider that the Soru lists have fished in the progressive area”.
“The proclamation will probably take place on Wednesday morning, it’s court time, but we know that the gap has further increased, which is why today will be a day of celebration and work with the elected officials, to address the problems to be addressed as a priority”, commented the president of the Sardinia Region who is waiting for the official announcement without giving the data in detail.
