Director Sarah Polley on her new film “The Debate”, on the big topic of womanhood and patriarchy it deals with, on the end of her acting career due to poor working conditions in Hollywood and on what has improved there.
There is actually a lot of talking in “The Debate”. But that’s just a vehicle in Sarah Polley’s new film. Because here those who otherwise let themselves be guided by others have to make a decision: women in a religious community who were raped by men. Polley thus creates a plea for female solidarity, which visibly spurred the actors on to top performances. The film has been in cinemas since Thursday.
