An unforgettable adventure for two Sorel ninjas in Orlando

“A magical adventure. “Infinite fun. The families of Betty Dutremble and Sarah Dupuis have only wonderful memories that will remain etched in their memory following accompanying their daughter to Orlando for the World Ninja Warrior Championships from July 26 to 30.

Not only did the girls participate in competitions alongside their idols, but Sarah Dupuis was able to bring home a bronze medal in one of the competitions in which she participated.

The two best friends were competing in the U11 category. Betty (10) and Sarah (11) had no performance goals; they just wanted to take advantage of it.

“We kind of knew what to expect since we had been to Las Vegas last year for the worlds. But to see all these Ninja Warrior stars not only be there, but perform…the girls were freaking out! They had fun, there was a great brotherhood between everyone and we all really realized that they were in the big leagues, ”says Betty’s mother, Josiane Parent.

The first event of their week was the World Ninja Warrior Championship (UNAA). Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned for Sarah and Betty, who respectively finished 63rd and 84th out of 113 girls in the U11 category.

“She was a little disappointed with her performance, she knows she might have done better, explains Sarah’s father, Jonathan Dupuis. In this sport, it’s not like hockey, she doesn’t have a second period to recover. But the disappointment only lasted an hour and she was ready for the second competition. »

The second competition of the week was the World Ninja Athlete Game (WNAG). It brought together one representative per gym as well as the top 15 in the world in this discipline. From Sorel-Tracy, only Sarah Dupuis participated and she rubbed shoulders with the cream of the crop in her age category.

After finishing first in Canada but fourth in the world when she qualified in total points last March, Sarah finally won bronze in Orlando. “She was so close to winning the big medal that weighs a pound and she told me: ‘I’m going to get that medal in Orlando.’ She kept her word! She managed a perfect course and she finished it in one minute 57 seconds, when she had to finish it in two minutes,” says Jonathan Dupuis.

“It was such a beautiful moment, adds Josiane Parent. We are all very proud of Sarah. »

Finally, the third event at the Ninja World Cup was a 100 meter obstacle course with 10 modules to be overcome as quickly as possible. Betty Dutremble did well with four obstacles out of 10 – while the average was between four and six. For her part, Sarah Dupuis almost reached the semi-final, finishing 17th while only the first 16 can reach it.

“She was overtaken by the last competitor. We believed in it until the end. She was disappointed, she would have liked to do the course once more, but she was facing the best in the world. There is nothing disappointing in that,” underlines Jonathan Dupuis.

“It was like we saw on TV, adds Josiane Parent. The pros we usually see have done the same course just before the girls. They haven’t changed almost anything regarding the course or the distances, whether it’s kids or pros! I was filled with pride watching Betty go from one obstacle to another. »

Both Jonathan and Josiane are filled with gratitude towards the coaches of the MST Fitness Center in Saint-Hyacinthe, but also the sponsors who made this experience possible for Sarah and Betty. “We felt the community of Sorel-Tracy behind us all along! concludes Josiane Parent.

During these world championships, there were 39 American states and 12 countries in competition.
