In 23:40.9 minutes, the runner-up world champion climbed the top podium in the World Cup for the first time in this non-Olympic discipline, in which there is only ascent but not descent.
“It’s the best day of my sports career. I felt very good right from the start and was able to soak up the whole atmosphere,” said the 27-year-old from Salzburg. In the last third of the race, where she cheered on her family and the spectators, she was able to really step on the gas. She answered clearly whether it was silver at the World Championships or a home win. “Today was even more special. Being vice world champion is cool, but now being a world cup winner and doing that in Schladming in front of my whole family is unbelievable.”
In the men’s category, 21-year-old Paul Verbnjak from Carinthia finished fourth. He had never been classified so well in the World Cup before.
