With his two goals, Calleri became the second highest foreign scorer in the history of São Paulo
With the stands full and in a great phase under the command of Dorival Júnior, São Paulo received Santos this Sunday, for the 15th round of the Brasileirão and, superior from start to finish, dispatched the beach rival by 4 to 1. It was the 5th victory followed in the last six commitments, adding all the competitions it disputes.
With the result, São Paulo reaches 25 points and fights for the G-4. Santos, who won once more following 12 consecutive stumbles, are at the bottom with 16 points, closer to the relegation zone.
São Paulo’s triumph was built with two goals by Calleri in the first half. David doubled and Pato found the net for the first time in his new spell at the club to put the score at 4-0, before Marcos Leonardo pulled one back for Santos.
With his two goals, Calleri became the second highest foreign scorer in the history of São Paulo. Alongside Sastre, the Argentine striker has 56 balls in the back of opposing goals. In the season, there are 9 goals in 29 games
A crowded Morumbi dictated the climate with which the two teams went to the field. São Paulo, with the massive presence of its fans, accelerated the pace in the beginning, also due to the good phase that the team is going through under the command of Dorival Júnior. But, he soon stopped himself. Santos, on the other hand, without Paulo Turra, sent off once morest Goiás, was much more cornered and without organization. Auxiliary Felipe Endres was the one on the bench.
Cautious and opportunistic, São Paulo took care of possession of the ball, without rushing and with short passes, getting little by little closer to João Paulo’s goal. Characteristic that Dorival Júnior, applauded before the match, brought to Morumbi: a team that is patient and knows when to attack weaker rivals. Reflection of this, the numbers were proof that the team truly owned the game. At one point in the first stage, the Morumbi team had exchanged 109 passes once morest just 22 from Santos rivals.
São Paulo took a while to ignite, but was rewarded for its insistence and patience. At 19, Calleri tried to dribble Joaquim inside the area and was knocked down by the Santos defender. The number 9 himself hit and converted. It was his first goal following six games. The last time he had scored was on June 8, once morest Tolima, for the Copa Sudamericana. At the celebration, he paid tribute to Nathan, a São Paulo player who lost his mother during the week.

The temperature warmed up and a beginning of confusion formed following Rafinha’s ball was stolen, which ended up falling to the ground. In an attempt to regain possession, Mendoza was too effusive and ended up punished by judge Braulio da Silva Machado with a yellow card.
As it mightn’t be otherwise, São Paulo was even more comfortable following opening the scoring. At 26, Michel Araújo almost starred in a real painting. The attacking midfielder saw João Paulo ahead and, from midfield, tried to shoot. The ball traveled and, very close to covering the Santos goalkeeper, hit the crossbar and went to the bottom line.
Santos remained hostage in Morumbi. Sandry was booked following a strong tackle on Alisson, reflecting the visitors’ lack of organization, who were unable to create chances. Tricolor goalkeeper, Rafael only worked with his hands, in fact, in the 39th minute, when Mendoza hit from the edge of the area, forced the goalkeeper to spread out.
And it was at 45 minutes that, once once more, Calleri, now with his head, put it 2-0 on the scoreboard following Alisson’s cross. VAR checked the millimeter bid and validated the advantage. The referee added six minutes of added time, but blew the whistle following a head-to-head clash between Arboleda and Joaquim. This was the 5th game in a row that Santos conceded an aerial goal.

On the way back from the locker rooms, the script followed the same. As much as Felipe Endres promoted Camacho instead of Sandry, aiming for a better exchange of passes for Santos, it was São Paulo who continued to create opportunities and shots with Luciano and Alisson. The visiting team tried to create more and press the ball out, but it was São Paulo who came closest to scoring.
At 25, Dorival Júnior promoted three changes in São Paulo since the game’s history practically remained the same. He took out Alisson, Calleri and Welington for Rodrigo Nestor, David and Caio Paulista, respectively, in order to maintain dominance in the duel. Camacho had to leave the match on a stretcher following colliding with Luciano. The number 10 shirt was also replaced and had his name shouted by fans in the stands.
São Paulo’s dominance was so great that a player came out, a player came in, the story remained the same. After a good exchange of passes by Nestor and Juan, the number 11 found David in the small area and the striker only had to push the ball inside in the 33rd minute. Then, Erison still stamped the Santos beam. Alexandre Pato entered the field in the middle of the party at Morumbi, which even shouted ‘olé’ in the final minutes.
To complete the festivities, Pato’s goal was missing. The attacker started the move that culminated in his first goal in his 3rd spell in São Paulo. The number 12 teamed up with David and, diagonally, crossed and settled the story at Morumbi. Marcos Leonardo even scored a penalty for Santos, but the São Paulo victory was already confirmed.
