Santiago Peña surprises award-winning skater to praise her career

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, announced in his social networks a video from the pleasant dialogue she had with compatriot Erika Alarcón, an artistic skater who is a member of the Paraguayan Sports Elite and became number 1 in the world in 2023. With outstanding performances in international competitions, she remains in the Top 3 of the discipline.

During the virtual conversation broadcast on his Instagram, the president surprised the award winner by praising her career, expressing his pride in her achievements.

“A few days ago I was able to meet Erika Alarcón Anisimoff, our champion skater who took the name of Paraguay to the top of world sport. A true Paraguayan warrior who makes us proud! Erika, Paraguay is you,” said the head of state, while urging her to continue growing and to take the country to the top.

“What a pleasure to meet you Erica, really after having read so much about you, to see a little of how you are, making all of us Paraguayans feel so proud,” encouraging her to continue shining at the top, considering the impact she generates on thousands of young Paraguayans, and reminding her of the phrase “Paraguay is you.”

“Paraguay is everything to me”

“Paraguay is everything to me,” declared world figure skating champion Erika Alarcón during the brief conversation posted on President Peña’s Instagram account, expressing her gratitude for the support the president provides to Paraguayan sports and athletes.

The medalist confessed to having realized her extraordinary talent for this discipline during the ODESUR Games held in Asunción in 2022.

“At ODESUR, the first time I felt like I was saying OK, I’m really good, so it was worth it,” she said.

Erika Alarcón Anisimoff, 23, from Ciudad del Este, has won several medals from important competitions and is preparing to maintain her position in this year’s world championship, at the World Skates Games Italy 2024, to be held from September 6 to 22.
