The Minister of Transport in Cuba, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, provided details on the reestablishment of the Santiago de Cuba – Manzanillo train.

According to the information offered, the train that will cover this route begins on August 6 and will run twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The bus will depart from the Senén Casas Regueiro train station at 5:15 am and arrive in Manzanillo at 12:15 pm. It will return on the same day at 2:00 pm and the trip will take approximately 7 hours.

Rodríguez Dávila acknowledged in his post that this is a service “highly requested by our population, especially in the east of the country.” It had not been in circulation since October 2023, and its last appearance was during the summer months.

He also said that the train will have a medium-sized locomotive and five Taino model cars with a capacity of 335 seated passengers.

As for the cars, he clarified that they were refurbished in the railway workshops in Santiago de Cuba. The cars underwent a general repair process, where seats in poor condition were replaced, the floor and windows were repaired, lights were installed and they were painted.

“Initially, there will be one carriage for the express service, which is intended to be increased,” added the Minister.

Santiago de Cuba – Manzanillo train stops

The train will run on the Central Line to the San Luis Combined Line, on the Bayamo Line to the city of Bayamo. Finally, it will run on the Manzanillo branch, and will have 33 stops according to the itinerary.

The service will have a price from origin to destination of 120.00 CUP and the tariff system for intermediate sections will be applied.

According to the details provided, tickets will initially be sold in person at railway stations and can be purchased using the various payment gateways Transfermóvil and Enzona. Later, the capacities will be sold through Viajero agencies and the Viajando APK.
