Santiago Giménez: The Rising Star of Feyenoord and His Impending Move to a Bigger Team

Hans Westerhof knows that Santiago Giménez has little time left in the Eredivisie.

The former Chivas coach, who has also been linked to Club Pachuca, assured that Santiago Giménez is living his last months as a Feyenoord player, since surely at the end of the season he will make the jump to a bigger team.

Currently, Santiago is the scoring leader in the Eredivisie with 9 goals in 6 games.

“I think so (it will be his last year in the Netherlands), naturally. ‘Guti’, ‘Chucky’, Edson, they’ve all lasted a year or two, and they’re right.

“The best thing happened to Santiago. First, Santiago is a good player, but Feyenoord is ideal for Santiago because they have very good wingers and they shoot a lot of crosses, that is very good for him,” Westerhof told FOX Sports.

On the other hand, Hans highlighted how well the Netherlands suits the Mexican players, but accepted that even they need time to adapt.

“It’s not just Santiago, you can almost make a team of pure Mexicans in Holland. Salcido, ‘Maza’ Rodríguez, Héctor Moreno, Jorge Sánchez; Guti, Guardado and Edson Álvarez, in the attack ‘Chucky’ Lozano, Santiago Giménez and Uriel Antuna. It would be a good team, they all played in Holland.

“I sincerely believe that a good Mexican player does not go to Europe to play for Real Madrid or Manchester United as starters, it is something different, it has also been difficult for some in Holland. Edson Álvarez hardly played in the first year, because it is different from how we play there, Guti was not a starter either, Guardado was a wingback, but in Holland the wingback position is not used, he expressed.

AJAX BET ON DEST, BEFORE JORGE SÁNCHEZ!

On the other hand, Westerhof revealed the reason why Ajax released Jorge Sánchez, who was loaned to Porto this summer.

Hans explained that Ajax was betting on the return of the American Sergiño Dest, so they would have to release the former América player. Ultimately, Dest ended up at PSV.

“Jorge needed time, but what happened is that the person who was in his position before, Sergiño Dest, wanted to return to Ajax. I think Ajax had more confidence in Dest, but Jorge is a great player.

“I thought that Kevin (Álvarez) would play in Holland, he has to play in Holland and from there go to another team. It is the same case with Luis Chávez, I thought that he would go to Holland for one or two years, but it hurts him that he went to Russia,” he stated.
