Santiago del Estero was filled with lights: fleet of UFOs or satellites?

A string of lights in the sky amazed several inhabitants of Santiago del Estero on Saturday March 25 at midnight. It was a phenomenon that lit up the sky in a rural area in the west of the province. Witnesses to the phenomenon believed that it was an alleged UFO fleet. Something similar was seen in areas of Chile and Egypt.

The Realidad Ovni site, which collects information on events of this type in Argentina and Latin America, attributed what happened in Santiago del Estero to a “UFO fleet.” However, it was later learned that it would actually be a group of starlink satellites, or satellite train, which could already be seen on previous occasions.

Starlink is a constellation of satellites designed and operated by the SpaceX company, founded by Elon Musk whose objective is to provide high speed internet access and low cost around the world, especially in rural and remote areas where internet connectivity is limited or non-existent.

This constellation of satellites has more than 1,500 satellites in low Earth orbit and seeks to launch up to 42.000 satellites to provide global coverage.

An ‘alien mothership’ could be sending probes to Earth, say scientists

This innovation has been greeted by some astronomy experts with concern, as the “satellite train” has an impact on night sky observation and astronomical research, due to the glare and interference they cause. Another observation in this regard is the impact it can cause on the environment and the security guarantee that such a large constellation of orbiting satellites can have.

What phenomena can generate a row of lights in the sky

  • Commercial Aircraft: These can be identified if the lights are white and moving in a uniform formation.
  • Satellites: in some cases they reflect sunlight and are visible from Earth, especially in rural areas. If the lights move in a straight line and don’t blink, they could be satellites.
  • Drones: some of them can have lights and several can fly together.
  • Natural phenomena: the aurora borealis and flashes of light produced by electrical storms.
  • Artificial lights – At large sporting events or festivals, artificial lights can be used to create patterns in the sky.
