Santa Claus Franklin and Festive Holiday Fun in Estrie: A Special Edition of La Tribune

2023-12-23 23:10:50

Hello dear readers,

Two days before Christmas, columnist Karine Tremblay tells us regarding her meeting with Franklin Dorey, undoubtedly the busiest Santa Claus in Estrie. He put on the red outfit edged in white for the first time in 2000 for his children. He still remembers the wonder in their eyes. He tells me regarding it with a twinkle in his eye. Franklin never put his suit back in the locker room. The following year, and all those that followed, he put on the tuque and the coat, he brought out his tonic Ho! Ho! Ho! He became known in the region as Father Christmas of Magog. Now we call him more Santa Claus Franklin.

In the same holiday spirit, journalists Jasmine Rondeau, Isabelle Pion and Lilia Gaulin contacted regional references to obtain suggestions for films, books, board games and regional products to discover during the holiday for the days when people will prefer to stay warm with their family.

Simon Roberge tells us for his part that the important Saint-Camille housing development project is on ice. The Commission for the Protection of Agricultural Land (CPTAQ) rejects the request for exclusion of the 13.6 hectare agricultural zone which would have allowed the municipality to add 30 to 50 additional homes. The mayor confirms, however, that the municipality will appeal the decision.

In the Mag, the head of the cultural pages Steve Bergeron gives us his last annual review before his departure from La Tribune with the list of the best shows he saw in the region in 2023. At the same time, he salutes creators who have sparked a significant mobilization. On the one hand, Anh Minh Truong and Véronique Vigneault brought together regional forces so that Men at Night, a feature film shot entirely in our country, might go from dream to reality. On the other hand, the artist Adèle Blais, with What would we be?, shattered an attendance record for a summer exhibition at the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts, but she also contributed to starting a movement to gain recognition Anna Canfield, wife of Gilbert Hyatt, as co-founder of Sherbrooke.

In sports, Jérôme Gaudreau in turn wonders what we will remember from the last year? The retro sports car is a tradition in your pages. An exercise that is never easy to carry out, especially because of the abundance. The holiday holidays have begun, let’s have a little fun while looking in the rearview mirror.
