Santa Claus at the Post Office responds to more than 270,000 letters from children in the 2023 campaign

Present in Brazil for over 30 years, the Correios Santa Claus Campaign is a solidarity action that seeks to provide an exciting and happy Christmas for needy children and public school students across the country. The campaign gives Brazilians and companies the possibility of adopting cards and presenting children with what was requested from the good old man.

According to the Ministry of Communications, this year the state-owned initiative managed to meet 100% of requests. Of the more than 270,000 letters that met the criteria, around 210,000 were adopted in agencies or online. The other 60 thousand were covered through gift donations made by more than 200 private and public partners.

The highlight in 2023 is the greater engagement of the artistic community and the federal government. Santa Claus at the Post Office had a large mobilization of artists, athletes, authorities, ministers and influencers who recorded videos, free of charge, to invite society to participate in the campaign and, thus, meet more requests.

For the first time in history, the campaign was announced by the President of the Republic. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, head of the Executive, released a video on his social networks inviting Brazilians to join the biggest Christmas campaign in the country. The post was also shared by the PT’s followers.

“It’s a sacred campaign, which tries to make it possible for poor children to receive a souvenir. It’s an attitude that can help us have a different Christmas,” said Lula.

The president of Correios, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, thanked everyone who helped the state-owned company make Christmas happier for almost 300,000 children across Brazil in 2023. “Thanks to you, our request this year for Santa Claus was met: not to leave any child without a gift”, he said.

Since the campaign began in 1989, more than 6 million children have had their requests answered. In 2022, the Post Office had received 252 thousand letters meeting the criteria, of which 187 thousand were adopted.
