Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is stepping down from her position as a parliamentarian to take up a new position at the Tony Blair Institute. Marin said Thursday in a press conference broadcast by Yle radio station. The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change is a non-profit organization headquartered in London that advises governments around the world.
Marin said she will not be moving to London for the time being. However, the new job as a strategic consultant involves a lot of travel and cannot be reconciled with her work as a member of parliament. That’s why she submitted her resignation on Thursday, Marin said.
The social democrat Marin was elected Prime Minister of Finland in 2019. At the age of 34 she was for a time the youngest head of government in the world and enjoyed great popularity at home and abroad. Despite gains, she and her Social Democrats lost the Finnish parliamentary elections in April.
