A 62-year-old tried to convert a motorcycle to electric drive in his 64-year-old brother-in-law’s workshop in Sankt Martin im Mühlkreis on Saturday around 4:25 p.m. When the lithium-ion battery was installed, it suddenly crackled and shortly followingwards started to burn. An attempt to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher was unsuccessful. Within a short time, the workshop on the ground floor of the agricultural building was in flames.
The two men were able to leave the building in time and were uninjured. The St. Martin, Plöcking, Untermühl, St. Peter and Rohrbach fire departments were able to quickly bring the fire under control and declared the fire at 5:30 p.m. There was major damage to the building and the motorcycle was completely burned out.
