The only goal of any team is to win cricket matches. But there is more to value than just success. That is why cricket is described as a game of honor. For this reason, the BCCI has been giving away fair play awards since the first season of the IPL.
The 2022 IPL season also saw a fair play award. This time the Fair Play Award was shared by Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. This is the second consecutive season that Rajasthan has won the Fair Play Award. This is the third time Rajasthan Royals have won the Fairplay Award. Rajasthan have 170 fair play points from 17 matches. Gujarat have 160 points from 16 matches. The award was received by Kumar Sangakkara and Ashish Nehra.
Points are determined by showing the spirit of the game in the competition, obeying the rules of the game, making decisions for umpires, and respecting opponents. Fairplay points are scored by the on-field umpires along with the third umpire.
Chennai Super Kings have won the Fair Play Award for the most number of times in the history of the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings have won the award six times. Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the award twice each.
