There is a no from the Senate Authorization Committee, chaired by the dem Dario Franceschini, called to decide on the request from the Court of Ministers to acquire the correspondence of the former culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano with Dr. Maria Rosaria Boccia. The request from the Court of Ministers had arrived in Sant’Ivo, seat of the Council, following the complaint against Sangiuliano himself by the Green MP, Angelo Bonelli, dating back to last September, where the crime of embezzlement due to distraction and revelation of official secrecy in the affair.
The rapporteur in the Council, Forza Italia senator Adriano Paroli, in his report last Tuesday, had asked not to authorize the transfer of the documents – emails, chats and other correspondence material between the former minister and Boccia – to the Court of ministers. “It is proposed to reject the request as second degree fumus persecutionis exists in the present case”, is what we read in the report. A thesis which was given the green light today by a majority of the Council and which will now be put to the vote in the Senate Chamber, from 4.30pm. In recent weeks, the same former minister Sangiuliano had asked to deny authorization to the tribunal of ministers.

**Interview with Dario Franceschini, Chair of the Senate Authorization Committee**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dario. The Senate Authorization Committee recently made the decision to reject the request from the Court of Ministers regarding the correspondence of former culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano. Can you explain the reasoning behind this decision?
**Dario Franceschini:** Thank you for having me. Our committee carefully reviewed the request and determined that there wasn’t sufficient legal basis to authorize access to Mr. Sangiuliano’s correspondence with Dr. Maria Rosaria Boccia. We believe it’s crucial to respect the boundaries of privacy and ensure that any legal inquiries are conducted within the framework of established laws.
**Editor:** This decision follows a complaint by Green MP Angelo Bonelli related to allegations of embezzlement. How does the committee feel about the nature of these allegations?
**Dario Franceschini:** The allegations raised by MP Bonelli are serious and deserve thorough examination. However, our committee’s role is to assess the appropriateness of such requests, not to delve into the merits of the allegations themselves. We encourage the judiciary to pursue this matter while we uphold legislative and ethical standards.
**Editor:** What are the next steps in this process, given the Senate’s rejection of the request?
**Dario Franceschini:** The legal proceedings can continue independent of our decision. If the Court of Ministers believes there is a strong case, they can explore alternative means to gather evidence. Ultimately, it is crucial that investigations proceed legally and transparently.
**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Dario. We appreciate you taking the time to clarify the committee’s position on this important issue.
**Dario Franceschini:** Thank you for the opportunity. It’s vital that we keep the public informed about these processes and ensure that accountability and transparency remain at the forefront of our political system.
