Paris (AFP) – The captain and top scorer in the history of the French basketball team, Sandrine Gruda, has withdrawn from the World Cup in Australia (September 22-October 1) due to a calf injury, announced Tuesday the Federation (FFBB).
Gruda (35 years old, 2,784 pts in 215 selections) “passed additional examinations yesterday (Monday) having revealed a muscle lesion, which will not allow him to be in full possession of his means in the coming weeks and during the Cup of the World 2022”, indicated the FFBB in a press release.
The interior will leave the group on Wednesday.
Spared at the start of preparation due to knee pain, Gruda had just joined Les Bleues, third in the Olympics last summer, on Friday for the start of the internship in Pau.
Jean-Aimé Toupane’s players will face Belgium on Friday in this city before meeting the same opponent two days later on his ground in Kortrijk, in the last preparation match for Les Bleues before leaving for Australia on September 9.
