On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, clashes broke out between street vendors and city hall staff responsible for evictions at Sandaga Market in the city centre. Street vendors with aprons who refused to be evicted were forced by security personnel from Dhaka Plateau City Hall. The latter allegedly looted their goods.
Faced with rejection by security personnel, businessmen and apron officers who wanted to claim their luggage resorted to stone-throwing. A real uprising ensued. The streets of the city center, the streets leading to Rond-point Sandaga, Ponti Avenue, Gambetta, forced the Deputy Governor of Plateau to leave his office. In a candid speech, Gibi Diallo told the traders that they had no right to occupy the road. That is why he invites them to the negotiating table to find lasting solutions.

Therefore, Djiby Diallo asked these street vendors to send “five managers to my office and we will discuss it. But know that I will not let anyone occupy the roads and sidewalks.
