An unnamed Russian automaker has asked Iran to supply it with key components it can no longer find in its country due to international sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine .

According to an official from the Iranian Association of Automobile Parts Manufacturers (IAMPA), quoted by the official Irna agency on Monday evening, the Russian automaker has sounded out Iranian parts and equipment manufacturers on the possibility of supplying its lines. of production.

“Given the Russian automaker’s demand for cooperation with Iranian OEMs, manufacturers who have the capacity to supply the Russian side in terms of quality and quantity of production, can try their luck for a presence in the market of this northern neighbour,” said Hossein Bahrainian.

Hydraulic anti-lock braking systems, master cylinder brake boosters, ABS sensors, seat belts, airbags, air conditioners, oxygen sensors, thermostats and window regulator systems are some of the parts requested by the Russian automaker, he said.

The war in Ukraine disrupted automobile production in Russia. Several global manufacturers have halted deliveries to Russia, while others have been forced to halt production due to component shortages.

Many manufacturers have announced the end of the sale of components or cars to Russia, like Audi, Honda, Jaguar or Porsche. Others have announced the cessation of production, such as Renault, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes, Volkswagen or Volvo.

The factories of AvtoVAZ (Renault-Nissan group), the leading car producer in Russia, employing tens of thousands of people, are almost at a standstill due to a shortage of imported components.

The Renault group, following announcing the shutdown of its Moscow plant, is now evaluating the options for withdrawing from the country, where it is particularly exposed.
