San Sebastián de Mariquita Takes Proactive Measures Against Yellow Fever Through Aggressive Vaccination Campaign
The municipality of San Sebastián de Mariquita is taking a proactive approach to protect its residents from the threat of yellow fever, with a focused effort to vaccinate its residents against the potentially deadly disease. Led by Mayor Martha Amaya, the campaign prioritizes accessibility, aiming to reach as many residents as possible through various community outreach initiatives.
Leading by Example: Officials Step Up First
Amaya set the stage for a community-wide effort by ensuring that municipal officials received the vaccine first. This gesture aimed to inspire confidence in the vaccine among residents.
“There was a lot of receptivity from the merople. “There was a lot of receptivity from the people, we are also making a deployment to the different companies in the municipality, in each activity that we have from the Mayor’s Office, we have the shirt on to vaccinate against yellow fever,” said Mayor Amaya.
Reaching Every Corner:
Reaching the wharves
The vaccination campaign extends beyond hospitals and clinics, with health officials actively traveling to different locations, including local businesses, to ensure wider accessibility. For example, a team recently visited the Glacial company, vaccinating 92 employees. This strategic approach ensures that people from diverse backgrounds and workplaces have an opportunity to receive the protection the vaccine offers.
“Thanks to the articulated work that we are doing with our Saint Joseph Hospital with the public health team, with the Local Health Directorate team, we are reaching all places to provide the vaccine in an easy and safe way. This time the dose was applied to 92 people who work at the Glacial company,” explained a representative from the health department.
Important Reminders: Single Dose and Essential for Travelers
The team emphasizes the importance of adhering to the designated schedule of vaccination, especially for those planning to visit areas where yellow fever is prevalent.
It is important to remember that the vaccine is a single dose,” the representative shared. “And if anyone is going to travel to municipalities such as Cunday, Villarrica, Prado, and Purificación, they must get vaccinated 10 days before.
