A necessary replacement of the mat for pole vault practice was carried out at the Silas Smith Municipal Stadium in San Nicolás, following an investment of 15 million pesos by the Municipality of San Nicolás, through the Department of Education, seeking to provide better and more dignified and safe spaces for San Nicolas athletes and students who perform this sporting discipline.

“Very happy for our athletes, especially for our Leornado Olate, Bolivarian Pole Vault Champion who has once once more raised the name of San Nicolás, both nationally and internationally. “Here we are with the replacement of the mat so that he can use it with his teammates to practice their discipline at a cost of 15 million pesos, to give greater dignity and better well-being to all our athletes,” said the mayor of San Nicolás Víctor Hugo Rice, who also announced maintenance work and improvements to the running track and long jump pit of the San Nicolas stadium.

“I think this mattress will be a great step in the community, because the athletes will have more personality to jump, without fear of falling, because before they fell into a hole, and now they don’t anymore. Personally, I think that this implementation will help me have a better performance in my competitions, and go to the World Cup with everything,” said Leornado Olate, current Bolivarian South American champion 2024 with a record of 4.40 meters.

The Chilean team thanked the San Nicolás community for its support, its San Nicolás Bicentennial Polyvalent High School, the municipality, “and San Nicolás, which has been the cradle since my beginnings, and I think this will be a great step in my career.”

The Olate teacher and coach, Alexis Quiroga, also highlighted “the new acquisition that the municipality made, thanks to the management of our mayor Víctor Hugo Rice, of a new pole vault mattress. It is of great importance to be able to take care of our students, and this gives us greater security so that all the kids in the school, and all the kids in the club and the community can jump. Thank Mayor Rice, our director Víctor Reyes and the entire Municipal Council for approving the resources for this important purchase.”

Antonia Wulf, two-time South American pole vault vice champion, was also happy with the replacement of the equipment used daily by her and all her classmates, taking advantage of inviting more students to join the sports branches of the high school and especially of athletics and the San Nicolás Athletic Club.

The mattress made in India has seven sections, measuring 800x600x80 cm, with a sewn and sealed nautical cover, 100% waterproof and highly resistant. Its filling is made of high-density super soft foam with an insulation chamber, which allows cushioning according to international regulations. In the same way, a covering structure of the mattress will be reconditioned, to ensure its greater durability.

In terms of sports, Olate’s closest challenge will be the South American U20 in Peru, where the brand will seek to obtain a place in the World Cup of the category, also in Peruvian lands and which will take place during August of this year.
