This February 8 at 10 pm, Johan Montero Villanueva, a 32-year-old man, exercised daily in a gym located in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho. Suddenly, when he was sitting on an arm training machine, he collapsed and fell unconscious to the floor.
Realizing what had happened and that Montero did not react, those who were in the surroundings approached to try to help him stand up, not knowing that he was suffering from a cardiorespiratory arrest.
“When the person collapses in this gym, obviously the people around the victim, due to lack of knowledge, did not provide immediate care, which is to do a RCPcardiopulmonary resuscitation. Identify that you are facing a cardiorespiratory arrestask for help immediately and start cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers”, explains cardiologist Dr. Richard Soto to Panamericana.

The victim’s family says that, at least, those in charge of the place should have known first aid techniques and acted quickly. In addition, they claimed that they did not take the young man to a medical center immediately, since there is a hospital and a clinic near the place.
“They waited 50 minutes to call a family member, they waited for the family member to take another half hour to arrive, so they might shout for a ride. The hospital is at the back and it is not possible that they cannot take it. There is a clinic less than half a block away, why didn’t they help him?” they question.
Luis Cotillo, sports doctor, details that the sudden death It is caused by a cardiac arrhythmia, which is when the heart stops beating. What happens with these types of patients is that they first lose their pulse, then consciousness and stop breathing. That is when you have to do at least one RCP in the first three minutes, which are the most important and not wait for more time to pass, he maintains.
