San Francisco relied on the local UTN to create its new metered parking system

The San Francisco Regional Faculty of the National Technological University (UTN) celebrated the “idea of modernizing” the city in which it is located and thanked the Municipality for its trust in adding it to the challenge of developing the new application that will be used for the Information System. Metered Parking.

The call to the house of higher studies was from the mayor Damián Bernarte, who decided not to renew the contract with the company Altec de Río Negro, signed in 2013 when the paid parking was born in the microcenter.

Alberto Toloza, dean of UTN San Francisco, explained that they achieved an “advanced” model and that, in addition to what was requested, they laid the foundations so that new services can be included in the future and consolidate the brand new system that comes into force this month of July and with important changes because the parking meters and the “keychain” that were part of the start and that currently coexist with an app will no longer be used.

Regarding the call to work on this project, Toloza understands that the university can provide a concrete solution to different situations using its professionals. In this specific case, students of Information Systems Engineering and Programming Technician also participated.

“When one talks regarding the activities of a university, of generating knowledge, transmitting it academically and then intervening in society, it is reflected in this action, in this inter-institutional link with a fundamental role with extensionism and technological linkage. This case is a milestone for the UTN San Francisco community and it will surely not be the last”, he predicted.

San Francisco. The metered parking physical points system will stop working this month to make way for the application to be used as the only parking system.

change and savings

The removal of the parking meters and the change of developer of the system will imply significant savings for the municipal coffers, it was indicated.

In addition, the cell phone will become key, and users must download the system. It will be available for Android -the most common- and IOS, the latter developed by Apple.

The mayor Bernarte affirmed that the UTN San Francisco should be a “strategic” ally of the municipality: “The enormous potential that exists in this house of high studies should provide the municipality, enrich it and be a very important leg in the development of the city,” he said. , and added: “Here is the knowledge and professionals who can put this knowledge into practice and help us build a modern city that goes hand in hand with the historical values that have brought us here as a community.”

The agreement, it should be noted, has a term of two years, with the possibility of extending it.

On the other hand, Bernarte highlighted the savings that this decision to change will imply for the municipal coffers: “we were paying the firm to Altec around five million four hundred thousand pesos per month in canon and now we estimate around one million two hundred or anything else. Savings for the municipal State is very important, ”he considered.

New model

From this coming Monday, in addition, metered parking will not be charged for the entire month. During that time, actions will be carried out to adapt the system to the new application, so that people can download the app and become familiar with its use, which will formally enter into force on August 1.

During the 30-day trial, the inspectors who control the system will place a voucher with a QR code in the vehicles from which the owner will access the application and can download it on their cell phone to begin to learn how it works.

It should be remembered that an hour of metered parking in this city currently costs 30 pesos.

The engineer Juan Calloni, from UTN, explained that the new mechanism “is completely in the cloud, so no physical equipment will be required to park.”

The situation at first sight is uncomfortable for those users who do not have a cell phone, who have one but do not take it with them every time they go out or who simply do not have a data package to have Internet access outside the home or their device does not have the capacity to download a new application.

To solve these situations, in addition to giving those who come from the region an opportunity, within the development of the app there is the possibility of buying “free hours” at authorized points of sale that already exist or at the Metered Parking Office itself. There the user will be asked for the vehicle data to load the time they want.
