LaTanya has worked in Hollywood since the late 1980s. Like her husband, she has appeared in many films. Her biggest screen role was as Paulina Pritchett in the 2003 musical film The Temptations of Fighting who also played Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé. LaTanya has also appeared on TV shows such as Law and order, Ally Mc Beal, Blue bloodand more recently, Grey’s Anatomy. She was in A raisin in the sun on Broadway and was nominated for the 2014 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. As a producer, LaTanya recently worked on the 2020 TV documentary Slavewhich featured her husband.

LaTanya attended Spelman College, the oldest historically black private liberal arts college for women in Atlanta, Georgia. Samuel was at the all-male Morehouse College in Atlanta. They met in 1970 when they were at different universities. They started dating fairly soon after and enjoyed a sweet romance together which took them until 1980 when they took their relationship to the next level.

After dating for 10 years, LaTanya and Samuel said “I do” to each other on August 18, 1980. Not much is known about the couple’s wedding ceremony, but we can assume it was a beautiful event. Samuel celebrated the couple’s 40th anniversary on Instagram in August 2020. He posted photos of the couple dancing and shared a sweet message to LaTanya. “HAPPY ANNIVERSARY @ltjackson_ Love ???? You’ve kept me on my toes and on pace for 18,250 days. You make my soul sing ????‼️ Don’t change your tone, we’re not done dancing”, Avengers: Endgame the actor wrote.
But marriage hasn’t always been easy for Samuel and LaTanya. The couple fell on hard times in the early 1990s when Samuel struggled with drug addiction. Things especially went downhill when he drank too much and nearly gave the actor/writer coke Ruben Santiago-Hudsonthe bachelor party. “I went through it, ticked off, went home, cooked the shit up and passed out before I even smoked it, drunk. That’s when my wife and daughter found me on the floor,” he previously reminded Vanity Room. 24 hours after this incident, LaTanya had her husband checked into a rehab facility. “I threatened to leave him if he didn’t go through rehab,” she told the publication. “I knew I couldn’t leave this boy I admired so much. But I wanted him too. I hated when he articulated his words. A wife hates to see her husband being weak. Samuel eventually came clean and reunited with LaTanya.

LaTanya and Samuel are the proud parents of a daughter Zoe Jackson39. Zoe works as a co-executive producer on hit shows Bravo Project track and Excellent chef and on the VH1 Course de dragsters de RuPaul. She won 3 Emmy Awards for her work on the last two shows. Zoe was previously a producer on La bachelorette for Season 13, which featured Rachel Lindsey. LaTanya and Samuel’s daughter is on Instagram, but unlike her famous parents, she has a private account.
After Zoe and the Course de dragsters won an Emmy for Outstanding Competition Program in 2021, proud mom LaTanya posted a photo of the trophy on Instagram and congratulated her daughter. “Lately I’ve been sad but today I’m smiling. ‘She came’ Good job Zoe. I smile at the recognition,” LaTanya said.
