Hollywood star Samuel L. Jackson is surprised by statements that actors in Marvel films are not movie stars.
“The criterion for a movie star was always what? Butts on cinema seats? What are we talking regarding?” said the 73-year-old, who himself plays agent Nick Fury in Marvel films, on Tuesday on the US talk show “The View”.
Jackson had been asked regarding the director Quentin Tarantino, with whom he had shot the cult film “Pulp Fiction” and who recently said in a podcast that film stars because of the “marvelization Hollywood’s“ had disappeared.
“It’s not much of a controversy for me to know that these actors appear to be movie stars,” he said Jackson looking at his Marvel counterparts. That cannot be denied with his colleague Chadwick Boseman, who died two years ago: “Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can’t argue with that and he’s a movie star.”
Before Tarantino, director Martin Scorsese had already caused a stir and outrage with his statement that Marvel films were not cinema for him. Regardless of the taunts once morest the superhero films, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Co. have been bringing in record numbers at the box office for years.
