Two folding cell phones, two Galaxy watches and three tablets: the South Korean manufacturer Samsung presented these products at its “Galaxy Unpacked” event in Seoul this week. According to Samsung, all devices will be available from August 10th or 11th.
The new foldables Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 should change nothing less than the world of foldable smartphones if the South Koreans have their way.
One of the highlights is probably the flexible duo of Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The former has a larger external display: It has a diagonal of 3.4 inches. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 was only 1.9 inches. In addition, the thickness shrinks from 15.9 to 15.1 millimeters, and the screen edges also take up less space. The inner 6.7-inch screen offers a Full HD Plus resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hertz, which should guarantee smooth operation and smooth scrolling. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 clocks inside, which also powers other high-performance smartphones. The cheapest flip variant costs 1199 euros.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is slightly thinner and ten grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Here, too, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings the cell phone to top performance. The camera equipment remains unchanged: In addition to a main camera with 50 megapixels and an initial aperture of f/1.8, the Fold 5 has a telephoto camera with ten megapixels (f/2.4) and a twelve-megapixel super wide-angle camera (f/2.2). On the front there is a camera hidden under the display with a resolution of four megapixels and an aperture (f/1.8) as well as a second camera with ten megapixels and an aperture (f/2.2). The cheapest Fold variant costs 1899 euros.
40 hour running time for watches
In addition to the smartphones, the manufacturer unveiled the new Galaxy Watch models: the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. The Classic has larger dials and a high-quality bracelet. According to Samsung, the watches last up to 40 hours. A number of fitness and health functions are integrated throughout the series, such as a temperature sensor, heart rate monitor and accelerometer. The prices are 319 or 419 euros.
The tablets were not neglected at the unpacked event either, as Samsung presented the new Galaxy Tab S9 series. It consists of three products: the Galaxy Tab S9, the Tab S9 Plus and the Tab S9 Ultra. Prices start at 949 euros.
