Earlier this week, the Samsung presented in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024a prototype of the Galaxy Ring and the first details regarding the product. And, although the company is working to make the smart ring work with Android smartphones from other companies, the news is not very encouraging when it comes to iPhones…
As highlighted by SamMobileduring a round table, Samsung’s vice president of digital health, Miss Pakin addition to revealing possible support for other Android devices, said that the Galaxy Ring will not be compatible com iPhones.
When asked regarding iOS compatibility, he said, “We recognize the iOS/Android challenge and hope that ultimately our devices are of a caliber that makes people willing to switch.”
In other words, Samsung will use the Galaxy Ring, at least initially, to try to attract more people to its ecosystem, especially Apple users. The South Korean company also used a similar strategy with its foldable devices, attracting curiosity regarding a new technology.
At the round table, it was also revealed that Samsung’s smaller smart ring has a 14mAh battery, while the larger model has a capacity of 21.5mAh (the company promises a battery life of up to 9 days). It is not yet known when exactly the accessory will be launched, but a company event should take place in July this year — when the Ring might be announced with an arrival date in stores.
Also in recent days, we reported that Apple has been registering a considerable number of patents relating to smart rings, which might indicate that the development of a rival product is close — if it has not already started. Until then, anyone who wants a ring like the Galaxy Ring without leaving their iPhone aside will need to turn to products like those from Oura.
