Soon newer products sold cheaper

Reconditioned is on the rise everywhere in the world, so that even the big brands offer their own reconditioning service and thus offer their products less expensive. Samsung is one of them and offers, via its Re-Newed division, a product reconditioning service for Anglo-Saxon countries. But many complained that it was never possible to get a recent model of the brand’s smartphone.

On the Re-Newed site, the most recent model of Samsung Galaxy S is the 21 Ultra 5G (sold from $550 compared to $1199 for a new product). No S22 or Galaxy A53 available since this year. This will therefore change soon, Samsung having announced the extension of its range of refurbished products to smartphones released more recently on the market.

A booming market

In recent years, the refurbished market in the world has occupied an important place in consumer choices. A trend that has exploded since the start of the health crisis with global market growth of 15% worldwide in 2021 compared to 4% in 2020 according to l’institut Counterpoint Research. Ecological concerns and the ever-increasing prices of new smartphones sold on the market play a huge role in consumers’ decisions to turn to refurbished.

At a time when a new product is easily sold for more than 1000€, reconditioned occupies a central place for 37% of French people who have opted for a second-hand smartphone, according to the firm Kantar. A recent refurbished smartphone is easily sold at half its initial price, allowing significant savings. This is why many online or physical sales sites now offer reconditioning services.
