Apple’s current M1 silicon is used in its line of MacBooks, Macs, and iPads, so the company needs a good chunk of those chips. By extension, this means anyone who enters Apple’s M1 chip supply chain is likely to make serious financial gains.
Samsung is one such supplier to Apple and produces FC-BGA substrates which are crucial for modern high density chips with circuit connections. Naturally, the Korean tech giant also wants to participate in the production of M2 chips.
The so-called Samsung Electro-Mechanics arm is set to strike a deal with Apple to produce the same FC-BGA substrates for the upcoming M2 chip. This report coincides with recent reports of Samsung investing over $1 billion to build an FC-BGA production plant in Vietnam and investing over $241 million more in an already existing plant in South Korea. .
