Artificial intelligence, even with some setbacks, continues to be the focus of many technology companies, which in turn want to increase or even integrate the novelty into their products, be they an electronic device or just a digital service/application. With that in mind, the Samsung made a million-dollar investment in technology.

With US$20 million, the Korean giant decided to choose to buy numerous AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs. The brand seems to have opted for AMD for the simple fact that the options offered by NVIDIA are still more expensive.

As explained by leaker viva100, AMD Instinct MI300X graphics cards cost around US$10,000 each unit, while NVIDIA’s option, the H100, is around US$30,000 and 40,000 per unit. So it is a logical move for the company to opt for these more affordable options that deliver good performance.

AMD’s MI300X cards arrived on the market at the end of last year and are currently the top of the line option in the Instinct family. According to their specifications, the GPUs have 19,456 Stream processors, 304 computing units and 192 GB of high-bandwidth memory (HBM3), which allow good performance for AI.

Another factor that may have contributed to Samsung’s choice of the MI300X GPUs is that the brand is responsible for supplying HBM memories to AMD for the Instinct line of graphics cards. An employee from the semiconductor industry even commented on Samsung’s choice:

Although the MI300X was initially considered inferior in performance to the H100, we know that Samsung Electronics has shown interest after recent tests by AMD demonstrated comparable performance to the H100.

It is also worth remembering that, recently, the Korean company obtained approval for its HBM3E memory focusing on NVIDIA GPUs, showing that Samsung plays an important role in the supply chain of creative components for AIs. Check out more news from the Korean giant here.
